Kevin Bacon’s Nightmares: Bacon originally hated being in the film, fearing it was a "career-killer." The stress was so high he suffered from sleepwalking nightmares where he would pick up his pregnant wife, Kyra Sedgwick, and try to carry her out of their house to save her from monsters.
A "Saturday Night Live" Lawsuit: The movie’s working title was Land Sharks. It had to be changed to Tremors to avoid potential legal issues with SNL’s recurring "LandShark" sketch, which spoofed Jaws.
Buoy-Based Monsters: To create the effect of Graboids tunneling rapidly under the dirt, the crew chained boat buoys to a truck and dragged them through underground troughs.
