ODD Film Facts:

  • Tautou cannot skip stones: The iconic shots of Amélie skipping stones on the Canal Saint-Martin were achieved using special effects, as actress Audrey Tautou doesn't know how to skip stones in real life.
  • Color-coded filmmaking: The film's unique color palette heavily emphasizes greens and reds. The color blue is used sparingly, usually only for contrast, and was often digitally added in post-production.
  • The two leads barely speak: With the exception of a brief phone call and a few words exchanged at the end, the two main characters, Amélie and Nino, do not have a single shared line of dialogue during the entire film.
  • The soundtrack was an accident: Director Jeunet had never heard of the composer Yann Tiersen until a production assistant played one of his CDs in the car while driving. Impressed, Jeunet immediately bought all of Tiersen's existing albums and built the soundtrack from both new compositions and existing tracks
